SUPERIOR AQUAPONICS SYSTEMS

Aquaponics is a combination of hydroponics and aquaculture. The concept of aquaponics is based on growing fish and plants together in one integrated and soil-less system. The fish and the plants form a symbiotic relationship in which the fish provides the plants with some food and the plants naturally filter and cleanse the water for the fish.

When operated inside a climate-controlled greenhouse, aquaponics systems are capable of producing premium quality, organic plants and fish anywhere, throughout the year. The key component to a thriving aquaponics system is the beneficial bacteria responsible for converting fish waste, decaying plant matter, and uneaten food into ammonia and other compounds that are consumed by the plants.

Superior Raceway Systems offers design and build services for aquaponics farming of tilapia, catfish and prawns grown together with tomatoes, medical herbs, maize, soybeans, pawpaw, plantain or any other crop in superior aquaponics growing systems. We also offer systems for growing grasscutters, pigs and turkey. After you secure a growing location at your backyard or farm, Superior Raceway Systems Limited can offer you a solar powered borehole (photo below) to ensure regular water supply for your project.

Our products

Cocoa

A revolution to change cocoa production in Africa has started. Our superior precision irrigation is paving the way to highly efficient and profitable organic cocoa farming.

Onion

Using waste waters from superior raceway fish tanks to drip-irrigate young onions will help you achieve uniform onion sizes and eliminate disease.

Maize

Get higher profitability using less resources. Our drip irrigation delivers a yield range of 15 to 18 tons per hectare.

Soybeans

Using waste waters from your fish tanks to drip-irrigate your soybeans will stabilize your farm and reduce your risk during dry season weather. Inconsistent or no rain becomes irrelevant when you use nutrient rich wastewater from our fish tanks to precision drip irrigate your soybeans.

Tomotoes

The quality of tomatoes depends on the Brix. Many factors affect Brix. Water management is the most important factor that affects Brix as it has an immediate and significant impact on the level of tomato Brix. Get High Brix, high yields and high profits using our drip irrigation.

Sugarcane

Average yields with drip irrigation are up to 50% higher when compared to sprinkler systems or flood irrigation, and up to 200% higher than rain-fed plantations. Optimal delivery of both water and nutrients reduces plant stress and significantly extends ratoon life, giving you an average of 8 to 10 cuts.

Rice

Rice grown with our drip irrigation has higher yields than conventional paddy rice. It uses 70% less water, diminishes methane emissions to almost zero, and reduces arsenic uptake by up to 90%. Our drip irrigation for rice eliminates evaporation, run-off and percolation.

Pineapples

Our precision irrigation increases the number of large fruits per hectare, maximizing commercial yields, which can reach 80 tons to 100 tons per hectare.

Palm Oil

Maximize growth and productivity by drip irrigating when your crop is flowering or during pollination and fruit development. You will achieve better yields faster. Monitor, analyze and control in real time with our state of the art products monitoring and management systems.

Cassava

It is possible to increase cassava root yields sixfold when the quantity of water supplied by precision drip irrigation matches that of the season’s rainfall. Using waste waters from your fish tanks to drip-irrigate your cassava ensures maximum harvest root yield with minimal weed growth, reducing herbicide application costs. Inconsistent rain becomes irrelevant when you use superior wastewater precision drip irrigation.

sustainability along the full value chain

SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF SOLAR WATER PUMPS

Once your system is built, you will use a solar water pump to flow-through nutrient-rich water from your raceway fish tanks through your dutch buckets into your Irrigation system. Superior Raceway Systems Limited supplies superior quality solar water pumps, solar panels and dutch buckets for your aquaponics projects in any part of Africa.

SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF IN-GROUND RACEWAYS

Flow-through and Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) allows us to provide a controlled environment constantly for the fish. In the (RAS) system, the culture water is purified and reused, making the system almost completely closed circuit. Waste products are removed or converted into non-toxic, while the purified water is re-saturated with oxygen and returned. This allows a completely optimal level of production that can be well managed for a range of fish species.

In our flow- through system, waste water from the fish tank is pumped into the irrigation system once every 24 hours.

SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF SMART IRRIGATION

Hydrawise Smart Controller and Water Management Software to get more control from your sprinkler system.

Smart Controller – A Wi-Fi sprinkler controller that meets the needs of both homeowners and farmers. Weather Adjustment Predictive Watering™ uses local weather data to fine-tune your irrigation system to water only when necessary.

SUPPLY AND INSTALLATION OF DUTCH BUCKETS

Dutch Buckets use a series of small media beds with a drip irrigation emitter delivering nutrients directly to the rootzone of plants. Dutch buckets are typically arranged in a straight line with one main drip irrigation and one drainage line for each row. Superior Raceway Systems Limited) can supply and install top quality dutch buckets for your project.

SUBSTRATE

The substrate used for superior aquaponics growing in dutch buckets are mainly coconut husks as shown. Coconut husk contains natural trichoderma which acts as a bio agent against harmful pathogens. It provides a great environment for beneficial fungi and bacteria to grow.

Superior Raceway Systems Limited can supply and install top quality coconut husk growing media in dutch buckets for your projects anywhere in Africa.

let there be light

Lighting

Plants grow most significantly when they can photosynthesize, meaning they need light to eat, drink and get bigger. Plants that don’t have enough light will be weak, thin and leggy, or short, squat and stunted. Give your plants plenty of light. All plants that are vegetating, like leafy greens and the tops of root vegetables in the first 30 to 60 days of growth can consume 12 to 20 hours of light. Superior Raceway Systems can offer you a timer so you can easily and accurately manage your light schedule even when you are away from your system. Flowering and fruiting crops need 10 to 16 hours depending on the variety to complete their life cycle.

Handling Heat

Plants determine the season by day length (photoperiod), light spectrum and temperature. When plants are too cold or too hot, they can go into “thermal dormancy” and won’t germinate properly or may not grow well. Some plants need to be completely dark to germinate, others need to see light.

Some types of lights like Metal Halide or High Pressure Sodium can produce a significant amount of heat, and not all plants can tolerate the higher temperatures. If your plants are getting heat stressed, showing burning or crispy leaves, then it is time to move the light higher, remove heat with proper venting and air exchange and encourage air movement with circulation fans.

Light Intensity

Sunlight is not always the same level, sometimes it’s bright, sometimes cloudy, low in the sky or high above head. The point is that sunlight varies. Unfortunately light bulbs are on or off (most grow lights won’t work with dimmers). Grow lights diminish in light value over time, except LEDs. Replace light bulbs when the number of light hours has elapsed (based on the number of days they are shining X the number of hours they are on). You can also use a PAR meter to measure light value and compare that to the needs of the plant that you are growing.

Sun Colour

The sun has a broad spectrum of colours that vary throughout the day (think of sunrise/sunset, cloudy days and high noon). Superior Raceway Systems can help you choose the right light fixture and bulbs for the plants that you want to grow. Vegetative plants like the blue spectrum of light and flowering and fruiting crops like the red spectrum. Full spectrum light bulbs offer a broad range of light color. Some of the newest and well designed LED lights like the BlackDog LEDs offer a great color and light intensity for exceptional plant growth.

Grow Lights

Grow lights allow you to grow year round and increase growth production. It is valuable to know the initial purchase cost, energy consumption, bulb replacement cost, venting and other factors when determining the best light options for your growing conditions. Indoor lighting is a science all its own. The more that you can do to mimic the sun while extending your growing capabilities, the better your plants will respond.
